Like
a storm blasting across the Midwest at great speeds, Derecho delivers
music that
blows up
skirts,
blows in windows, blows out speakers, and rocks
your entire neighborhood. Long time Dishwater Psychics band mates Dan Miller
and Chris Jones combine for a whole new sound thanks to Dan’s vocals
and songwriting. Handling most of the duties, Dan sings, plays guitar, hammers
acoustic drums, and pecks at synthesizers while producing, engineering, and
mastering. Chris provides his most uninhibited bass lines on every track,
as long-time FPM veterans John Wenzel and James Focht grace a few songs with
vocals and additional guitars where needed.
Sometimes cerebral and heavy,
and other times light-hearted and cool, Derecho’s
radar screen echoes influences of old-school pop-rock artists like ELO and
Tom Petty, modern alternative artists like Beck and Flaming Lips, and embraces
dark elements inspired by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. The only question
now is whether or not to issue a storm watch before turning up the volume.
