Dishwater
Psychics’ first release experimented with multiple genres (country,
psychedelic, punk) and bizarre instrumentation to create surreal, haze-induced
soundscapes.
Vocals are split between Chris Jones, Dan Miller and John W., and the band’s
eclectic sound is inspired as much by the do-it-yourself indie ethic as careful
studio experimentation.
Switching
from hi-fi to lo-fi, Dishwater Psychics recorded their full-length follow-up
Blueprint of a God on a 4-track over the summer of 2000. Members Chris Jones
and John W. were joined by drummer Rocky Twarek and the Bragg sisters
(violin,
bassoon) as they recorded in the garages, basements, and closets of Dayton.
A muddier and ultimately more rocking Dishwater Psychics.

After
singer/guitarist John W. moved to Denver, Colorado, Dishwater Psychics
exchanged
tapes via mail to continue their collaborations. With the same lineup as Blueprint
of a God, (plus original member Dan Miller on a few songs) Candlewax Horizon
expanded their stylistic aim while improving their fidelity and performances.
A longer, darker Dishwater for flooded basements and downed power lines.

With
new drummer Mike Behrenhausen (Blusom, Maraca 5-0) and a hi-fi studio at their
disposal, Dishwater Psychics crafted a lucid EP of spare acoustic sounds, electric
melodies, and interwoven themes of Midwestern elegance in decline. The pinnacle
of Dishwater’s sound, The Signal Will Fade EP is a document of a band
moments away from debility and intent on communicating their restless viewpoints.

A
collection of Dishwater Psychics B-sides,
The ASCAP Years: 1999 to 2002 is an obscurity that gathers the band's unreleased

are represented on this album, which was limited in pressing.

Dishwater
Psychics took a long hiatus in 2001 but returned in 2006 with "If I Ever
Disintegrate," an
album written and recorded over a couple weekends. Employing a drum machine
and lots of distortion, the album returned to the roots of 2000's "Blueprint" by
busting out a dozen chunky nuggets in the members' spare time, and coming up
with some of the best stuff they've ever released.
"Dry
Night Riverbed" marks the return of founding member Dan Miller and
his multi-instrumentalist approach. Layering keyboards, slide guitar,
and harmony vocals over John's spiky music and Chris's demented lyrics
and bass, Dan interweaves a crisp and much-needed dynamic into the already
hallucinogenic landscapes.

Dishwater
Psychics returns with the John-Chris-Dan lineup and a
sharper, darker collection that emphasizes taut songwriting, surreal
lyrics, and custom-built riffs. Pulling away from the subtleties
of the last couple records, "Grave Country Fondle" is a no-nonsense
rock disc that nonetheless offers a wealth of Sebadoh-soaked
melodies and decaying drum machine beats.

Friendly
Psychics Music has never released a single over its eleven-year history,
but that changes with “Holiday Lies,” a brand new song recorded
for the 2010 holiday season along with its vigorous flip-side “Scared
of Skin.” John W’s warm vocals and acoustic guitars beckon
from the darkness as Chris Jones and Dan Miller supply the sonic tinges
that light the way. These tracks are available
exclusively at Noisehead.com.
